Terrigal – Modern Hamptons Style Kitchen Joinery

Drawing inspiration from its coastal Terrigal setting, this Central Coast kitchen reinterprets the traditional Hamptons aesthetic through a contemporary design lens. The scheme balances classic architectural detailing with refined material selections, soft coastal tones and warm natural textures, creating a space that feels sophisticated yet relaxed.

At the heart of the design is the custom Hamptons 90 routed door profile, selected for its ability to introduce depth, shadow and traditional character without overwhelming the clean architectural lines of the space. The classic cabinetry is paired with Momo Graf Knurled D handles in brushed nickel, where the tactile knurled detailing and understated metallic finish provide a considered contemporary contrast.

The colour palette was intentionally kept soft and restrained. Dulux Surf ‘N’ Dive and Dulux White on White, applied in a satin finish, create subtle tonal variation across the cabinetry while maximising the sense of light and openness. The result is a palette that reflects the coastal environment without relying on overtly beach-inspired styling.

A key design feature is the continuous use of YDL “Angel Falls” engineered stone across the benchtops and splashbacks. Rather than introducing competing materials, the stone creates visual continuity between the horizontal and vertical surfaces, allowing its subtle movement and natural character to become a defining element of the scheme. The 40mm benchtop profile adds visual weight and a sense of permanence, while the matching stone splashbacks extend the material language vertically for a seamless, high-end finish.

The introduction of Tesrol Milano Oak floating shelving brings warmth and organic texture into the predominantly light palette. These open shelves provide a deliberate visual break from the cabinetry, creating opportunities for styling while softening the overall composition. The timber-look finish works in contrast with the cool coastal tones and stone, establishing a balanced relationship between light, texture and materiality.

Attention to detail extends to the integration of the concealed custom rangehood box, which has been designed as part of the cabinetry rather than treated as a separate appliance element. This considered approach maintains strong horizontal lines and a visually uncluttered aesthetic, allowing the architectural form of the cabinetry and stonework to remain the focus.

Functionality has been integrated seamlessly into the design through Blum soft-close hardware, providing a premium tactile experience and smooth operation throughout the kitchen. The joinery is constructed using 16mm white moisture-resistant Australian-made carcass board, providing a durable and practical foundation beneath the refined finishes.

The completed kitchen demonstrates a considered approach to Hamptons design—retaining the craftsmanship and detailing of the traditional style while stripping back unnecessary ornamentation. Through the balance of classic profiles, contemporary hardware, coastal colour, engineered stone and warm timber tones, the design achieves a timeless aesthetic that is distinctly suited to its Terrigal setting.
